이 프로젝트는 제주도 국제학교 인근의 불규칙한 대지에 두 세대를 위한 주택을 설계한 것입니다. 각각 100평 규모의 2층 주택으로, 각 건물에는 옥탑이 포함되어 있어 특별한 경험을 선사합니다. 옥탑에 올라서면 제주도의 상징인 한라산과 서귀포 앞바다의 드넓은 풍경이 한눈에 들어옵니다. 대지의 독특한 형태를 고려해 두 주택을 배치하며, 공간 활용을 극대화하고 조망을 최우선으로 삼았습니다. 각 세대는 독립적인 생활을 보장하면서도 제주의 자연을 공유하는 연결성을 갖췄습니다. 이 설계는 단순한 주거 공간을 넘어, 거주자에게 편안함과 영감을 주는 환경을 제공하는 데 초점을 맞췄습니다.

제주도는 비와 바람이 많은 거친 자연환경으로 유명합니다. 이에 주택의 외관은 단단한 돌덩어리를 닮은 모습으로 표현되었습니다. 설계는 하나의 커다란 덩어리에서 시작해, 대지의 불규칙한 모양을 분석하며 층별로 분절된 형태를 완성했습니다. 이는 땅의 흐름과 조화를 이루면서도 강인한 느낌을 줍니다. 외부 마감은 화강석을 사용해 견고함을 강조했으며, 최고급 시스템 창호를 적용해 내구성과 단열성을 강화했습니다. 지붕은 박공 형태를 유지하지만, 외부에서 거대한 단일 매스로 보이도록 가벽을 활용해 박공의 경계선을 연장선처럼 은폐했습니다. 이로써 주택은 제주의 험난한 날씨를 이겨내며 단단히 뿌리내린 듯한 인상을 주고, 동시에 독창적인 건축미를 발산합니다. 내부와 외부가 어우러진 이 집은 제주의 자연과 공존하며, 두 세대가 함께 살아갈 수 있는 특별한 터전으로 완성되었습니다.

This project involves designing a dual-family residence on an irregular plot near an international school on Jeju Island. Each house spans 100 pyeong across two floors, complete with a rooftop that offers a unique vantage point. From the rooftop, the iconic Halla Mountain and the expansive Seogwipo coastline come into view, blending Jeju’s natural beauty with daily life. The layout adapts to the land’s uneven shape, optimizing space and prioritizing scenic views. While ensuring privacy for each household, the design fosters a shared connection to Jeju’s landscape, aiming to create a space that inspires and comforts its residents.

Jeju’s harsh climate, with frequent rain and strong winds, shaped the exterior to resemble a solid stone mass. Starting as a single volume, the structure was segmented into layers based on the land’s contours, harmonizing with its surroundings while exuding resilience. The facade, finished with robust granite, paired with top-tier system windows, ensures durability and insulation. Though featuring gabled roofs, false walls conceal the slopes, presenting a unified, monolithic form. This approach allows the houses to stand firm against Jeju’s elements, showcasing architectural elegance. Blending interior and exterior, this home coexists with nature, serving as a distinctive haven for two families.
